Over and above the numerous inconveniences faced by commercial air travelers, none of which have a clear effect on preventing another September 11th-style hijacking from occuring, the newly federalised airline screening process has also created a breeding ground for thieves, with more than 6,700 complaints lodged in the first six months of federal "control" of the screening process.

Of course, thievery has always been a problem among airport screeners and baggage handlers. But for the TSA to acknowledge that fact, and then still "recommend" that everyone leave checked baggage unlocked is hilarious -- the TSA has been granted immunity in the event that a locked bag or it's contents is damaged or even destroyed in the event that a random check is deemed necessary, and of course a bag being locked is considered a red flag.
I wonder how much longer it will be before airline passengers are not allowed to go to the bathroom with the door closed for security reasons?
